Notion alert: the Simpli-EZ Binding Tool!

I bought the Binding tool by TQM Products in Houston 2009. On show they promoted the tool, demonstrated how to work with it and made it look eazy-peazy. For 9$, where could I go wrong? At home I tried it a few times, and each time my binding became too long, and the thing didn't work for me. I almost gave the thing away, as it did not do what they promised me. It was somewhere in a drawer, gathering dust, and it felt like 9$ down the drain.

In 2011, Paducah, the tool was demonstrated too, and I watched the demonstration again, remembering the "thing" was somewhere in a drawer. And on show, again, it seemed so easy.

At home I tried it with some placemats. And again, my binding was too long. I was getting frustrated with such a not clear ruler. In my last attempt I tried to find a better manual than the description on the tool itself.
I googled and found on YouTube this great video from MissouriQuiltCo where the ruler was demonstrated for the "slower learners" as the lady says. She obviously doesn't mean offence, and I assume I am a slower learner, as this video finally gave me the reason why this tool didn't work for me!

Since I saw this video, I finally learned how to use the tool! And now it is an addition to my great heap of rulers. If you are thinking of buying this tool, do not forget to watch this video, and accept to be viewed as a slower learner.;-) With the guidance of this video you get a 9$ tool that really helps you to make a great start and finish with a binding.
And to be honest, each time I make a binding, I watch the video again and again. I assume I am a slow, slow learner, and among the slowest of those. Glad there is YouTube and no limit to the amount of times a video can be watched!

Have fun quilting!

Handig dingetje. Heb ik nog niet. Je moet wel goed opletten dat je de tool draait bij het gebruiken.
Anders wordt de binding inderdaad te lang.

I have a different tool that I have never been able to figure out - I need to look and see if there is a video demo on it.
glad you got it to work.

Well this is interesting. I've never even heard of this tool before, but bindings are not hard for me to work with.

The gal at Missouri Star must know that it can be a difficult tool to figure...thus her comment on 'slow learners'. I am sure too, that she didn't mean offense by it. And I have found that many people when giving directions on how to use some things are just not clear with said directions. I love Jenny Doan as she makes all things seem easy as sliced pie! LOL

Thanks for sharing the information with us.

Quilt groetjes Anja.
