In the Limelight: Caron Mosey

In the Limelight is about quilters that inspire me and maybe you. Quilters that do or make just that what makes me do an extra step. It might be their quilts, the colors they choose or the things they do. One of these quilters is Caron Mosey.

Three months ago I did not know Caron, never even heard of her, althought she wrote two books about quilting. Well, it's a little while ago, so I was treating my pimples in the bathroom while she was writing two books, America's Pictorial Quilts and Contemporary Quilts from Traditional designs.

I was never interested in blogs. To me blogs were for those people who had nothing else to do than writing about what they ate that night. Well, Debby, from Quiltstyle (Dutch) taught me what blogs were, how to find the interesting ones and who are fun to read in quilt blog land. It caught me. And then I started blogging myself. Within no time the blog of Caron came up. She makes the most beautiful hand made and machine made quilts. Check these out:

Her quilts is one thing. What inspires me most in Caron is the effort she puts in promoting hand quilting. I am guilty, convicted and all. I am a hand quilter, a dinosaur, who isn't willing to step over (completely) to machine quilting. And then I found her post, Hand quilters Unite. It was just 10 days after I started blogging. She was inviting people to use her blog to find hand made quilts all over the web. I promoted that post from her in Holland, and it worked! We have a lot of hand quilters here, so loads of people entered their handmade quilt to be part of the web hand quilt show.

It was such a success that Caron decided to make a new blog entirely focused on hand quilting. We all could contribute, and of course I decided to be a participant too. On Celebrate Handquilting a lot of information from all contributors can be found on hand quilting, the tools and the quilts.

In the mean time Caron and I developed an online friendship that's just great. She inspires others to hand quilt, to finish a top, to make the best of their applique and to involve others in making everyone aware that hand quilting is alive and kicking. And I am living proof of that, as I am a hardcore hand quilter, and I already was at the age of 31.

Celebrate hand quilting, unite and all good things. Caron, thanks for starting all that.

Have fun quilting!
Annemart

p.s. Caron does not know what I am writing about her. She didn't ask me, nor does she pay me to write this. I could get lost in Transylvania near Dracula's castle and she would live happily ever after. Well, she would miss my posts maybe. And my contributions to Celebrate Handquilting. But that's all. I just love her energy for hand quilting. Period.

Geweldig initiatief van Caron.
Machinequilting is prima, ik doe dat ook wel maar voor mij is handquilten het echte werk.
Dat moet dus wel blijvend gepromoot worden.
